Why any Roman Emperor would care who was the non-Roman king of a nomadic desert tribe from 1000 years prior is beyond me. It would be like President Obama telling me I have to go to Bavaria to be counted in their census because I am related to Konrad II. It seems absurd to expect an uneducated and illiterate band of desert dwelling sheep herders to know who their millennia old relatives are.
